CAIRO (Ma'an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo on Wednesday for talks with his Egyptian counterpart Muhammad Mursi, the PA ambassador to Egypt said.

Barakat al-Farra told Ma'an the presidents would meet on Thursday and discuss the Arab League's recent visit to Washington, the peace process and Palestinian reconciliation.

Hamas and Fatah held talks in Cairo on Tuesday and agreed to form a unity government within three months, Hamas' deputy politburo chief Moussa Abu Marzouq told Ma'an.

The ambassador said Abbas and Mursi would also discuss Israeli violations in Jerusalem, including attacks on the Al-Aqsa mosque compound and against Christians.

Israel apologized to Cairo after police violence against Egyptian diplomats during the Holy Fire ceremony at Jerusalem's Holy Sepulcher church on Orthodox Easter.

According to public radio, three Egyptian diplomats and a Coptic priest were hit by Israeli police during the Holy Fire ceremony, a centuries-old sacred rite which takes place in the church on the night of Orthodox Easter.

Footage posted on the Internet show a group of police manhandling a Coptic priest in Jerusalem's Old City, with one officer locking the priest's head in his arm.

Israel arrests 25 Palestinian protesters on Nakba Day

Israeli forces have arrested 25 Palestinian protesters during clashes in and around East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The Palestinians were detained during a demonstration held on Wednesday to mark the 65th anniversary of the Nakba Day.

Israeli security forces used tear gas, stun grenades, and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators, who were marking the anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians from their homeland in 1948, which they call the Nakba (the catastrophe).

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip also took to the streets to voice their anger against the Israeli occupation of their land.

Similar demonstrations were held in the West Bank cities of Ramallah, Nablus, and al-Khalil (Hebron), and some other countries around the world.

On Tuesday, Israeli forces attacked hundreds of Palestinians who were trying to mark the day in the West Bank city of Bethlehem.

Every year on May 15, Palestinians all over the world hold demonstrations to commemorate Nakba Day, on which Israeli soldiers also wiped nearly 500 Palestinian villages and towns off the map, leaving an estimated total of 4.7 million Palestinian refugees and their descendants dreaming of an eventual return to their ancestral homeland more than six decades later.

Pride of Palestine

DO YOU BELIEVE IN COINCIDENCES?

Here’s a few for you to consider:

1. On September 11 2001, 2000 employees who normally worked at the twin towers did not turn up for work. They all happened to be Jewish! And no, it wasn't a Jewish holiday.
2. The owner of the Twin Towers, a Jewish man who came to be known as “Lucky Larry”, did not go to his office that day either, and neither did his son and daughter!
3. Lucky Larry purchased the towers for the give-away price of 5 million dollars, but shortly before the attack, he insured them for 7.1 billion dollars! How lucky can you get?
4. “Zim Shipping” a company 50% owned by the Rothschild’s family (Jewish), who had been renting office space in the towers for years, shortly before the attacks broke a thirty year lease and moved out of the buildings!

Israel concerned over Russia’s arm sales to Syria (PIC) Israeli Justice Minister Tzipi Livni

At meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned some media reports regarding Russia’s shipment of weapons to Syria.

An Israeli official has expressed concerns over Russia’s shipment of advanced arms to Syria, saying they could be used against Israel.

"(Weapons) could reach others in Syria or Lebanon, and be used against Israel," Israeli Justice Minister Tzipi Livni said on Saturday, Reuters reported.

"These are not just any weapons, they are tie-breakers, and that's why there is a responsibility with all world powers, certainly Russia, not to supply such arms," Livni said.

At meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned some media reports regarding Russia’s shipment of weapons to Syria.

“I do not understand why mass media are trying to make a sensation out of the fact. We do not conceal it that we supply weapons to Syria according to signed contracts, violating neither any international agreements, nor our own weapon export control legislation, one of the strictest in the world,” the Russian foreign minister said.

The Syria crisis began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.

Damascus says the West and its regional allies, such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, are supporting the militants.

In an interview recently broadcast on Turkish television, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that if the militants take power in Syria, they could destabilize the entire Middle East region for decades.

“If the unrest in Syria leads to the partitioning of the country, or if the terrorist forces take control… the situation will inevitably spill over into neighboring countries and create a domino effect throughout the Middle East and beyond,” he stated.

Egyptian Siege on Gaza Day 5: 2400 Palestinians Stuck At The Rafah Border terminal Tuesday May 21, 2013; the Himaya Center for Journalists Defending Human Rights has reported that more than 2400 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip are currently stuck at the Rafah Border Terminal between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, awaiting to be allowed through.

In a press release, the center demanded the Egyptian Authorities to open the terminal without any delays, and to refrain from involving the Palestinians in internal issues in Gaza and Egypt.

It also demanded providing the Palestinians, stuck on the terminal, with temporary shelter and the needed care, and added that the border crossing must be continuously operating as agreed upon during meetings and arrangements, and called for applying all related laws.

Egypt closed the Rafah Border Terminal more than four days ago, leaving 2400 Palestinians stuck on the crossing, and preventing thousands of Palestinians from leaving the coastal region.

The Rafah Terminal is the only crossing point that the Palestinians in Gaza can use when traveling abroad, due to the fact that Israel controls all other terminals, including commercial crossing in the Gaza Strip.
